The lab grown diamond deep dive you’ve been searching for.
So you’ve made an investment in the diamond piece of your dreams, and now it's a high priority to make sure you care for your jewelry in all the right ways.
There are a handful of things that you can do to keep your ring sparkly and clean, but what are the best kept secrets that your jeweler might not be telling you. Many of these habits seem totally normal and likely wouldn’t come up in a conversation with your jeweler. But after decades in the biz (and many repairs and replacements later), we have the jewelry tips that shouldn’t be a secret!
Here are a few things our expert jewelers wouldn’t do when it comes to jewelry care and everyday habits:
You might hear us say that it's totally fine to wear your fine jewelry in the shower for a quick rinse- which is true! There should be no major damage to your metal or gemstones during a shower. We do highly recommend avoiding taking your jewelry for a swim in a pool, hot tub, or even the ocean. The diamond itself is relatively safe, but the precious metals will start to be affected and even corrode over time due to its contact with chlorine. As far as taking it into the sea- this is mostly a precaution against your jewelry falling off. Better to be safe!
Sure, diamonds are the hardest material on the Mohs scale, but those metals that hold the diamond in place are not. We wouldn’t dare go too hard on yard work, jobs that require you to use your hands a lot, or workouts with precious jewelry on. You may be wearing padded gloves or other protective gear that covers your jewelry, but, at best, all these coverings can do is keep your jewelry clean. You risk bending your pieces out of shape or even breaking more delicate jewelry from the hard pressure you may be forcing with your hands.
Your bed may seem like a cozy place that is safe for jewelry, but we’ve seen too many accidents over time to keep letting this slide. Night after night rolling around in your sleep can cause a lot of damage to your jewelry due to added wear and tear. Depending on how you move and land in your sleep, your bracelets, necklaces, and rings are subject to being stretched, smashed, and bent. This can cause the metals to become misshapen and prongs to become loose.
We care about the longevity of your fine jewelry and wedding rings. That’s why there are never any secrets with us when it comes to the design, upkeep, and daily habits that preserve your special diamonds and fine jewelry.
